The album came out a week ago exactly, and I honestly needed time to digest it before I could sit down and write this review. But yes that is right, these weirdos finally got off the year long flight to basically nowhere. I'm so excited (but also kind of nervous???) to be writing this review. If you're new to my blog (WELCOME!!!), you're probably not aware that I love the GOT7 boys with my whole heart (like since JJ Project was a thing) and Mark Tuan is my boyfriend. That being said, you already know this review is extremely biased, but I will always try my best to be as honest with you as I possibly can. Now let's get started...
This album is the last installment of the Flight Log trilogy and of course was well anticipated by Ahgases and non-Ahgases alike. It features eight songs, 7 of which were written by the boys themselves. The title track is "Never Ever" which was produced by J.Y. Park PD; this song is the first produced by him for GOT7 since "딱 좋아 (Just Right)" but don't quote me on that. As for the physical album, which I ordered by don't have yet, there are two versions, a Never version (tan/blush) and an Ever version (green). Each album comes with one of four clear covers (and if you get all four covers, you can combine them to get the full color cover photo) as well as three photobooks, three photocards, a poster, an Arrival card (idk what that is), and of course the CD. It's bigger than the Turbulence album, but I don't know exactly how big because I don't have it yet... In terms of album artwork, the physical album looks like the first photo above, but if you have the digital version of the album, the album artwork looks like the second photo. Sadly, there are no individual covers for this album, but its honestly kind of nice because y'all don't know how much I struggled to get Mark's Turbulence cover... but I did include the member's individual photos at the end of this post because I couldn't resist, but for now... :)
The Songs:
1. Never Ever
Never Ever is the title track. You can watch the music video and the choreography music video here. I love Never Ever so much. When GOT7 teased the crap outta this album, I didn't expect the song to sound like this but I immediately fell in love with it. It has such a good beat and the choreo... THE CHOREO!!!!! (you can enjoy the music video on the side bar ;))
2. Shopping Mall
I made fun of Shopping Mall when I first heard the title because I immediately thought of Robin Sparkles's "Let's Go To the Mall" but this song is not like that at all. Of course I got a sneak peak of it when GOT7 released episode one of GOT7ing+ but the completed version is honestly so good. Defsoul oppa (lololol), Jackson, Mark, and BamBam participated in writing this song and I totally get their vibes from this song. It quickly became one of my favorite songs on this album and I'm sad KBS banned it (literally for no reason lmao). Also they plagarized "shy shy shy" from TWICE but I ain't complaining cause I don't like TWICE tbh (don't ask me why).
3. Paradise
This song is serious so so so sooooooo good guys. Jinyoung oppa did it again. It just has such a good vibe, like it's the kind of song where you want to drive along the coast in a convertible with your air blowing in the wind, arms up in the air. Mark's narration murdered me. Also, thank you Jinyoung for letting Bam say Double B before his verse because that gives me life.
4. Sign
CHOI. YOUNG. JAE. OUR ARS OPPA EVERYONE. This boy sure knows how to write a damn good song. It's an amazing slow jam and I can honestly see Gyeom Brown dancing to it in the way he does. Also they performed this at their showcase and I threw a party for Youngjae because I love to celebrate his accomplishments. Bascially, I cannot put into words how incredible this song is so you're just going to have to go listen to it yourself.
5. Go Higher
Okay so honesty time... I didn't really like Go Higher when I first heard it. I felt like it didn't fit the general vibe of the album. Don't get me wrong though, it's a really good song, like Defsoul oppa can literally write anything, but it's not really my style. I know JB wrote is to be like a "club song" and I feel. That being said, the fact that it's not my favorite won't stop me from jamming whenever it comes on. Also Bam's verse kills.
6. Q
I will start by saying that this is seriously my favorite song on the entire album. Since I heard it on the album spoiler, I knew it was going to be my favorite. Of course, I'm a sucker for cutesy love jams like this but hOW COULD YOU NOT LOVE IT. Defsoul oppa, I'm sorry I didn't like Go Higher but you redeemed yourself with Q. Also like can we talk about how Mark kinda sings in this song like THANK GOOOOD. But ya, basically I'm so obsessed with this song that I literally only listened to it on repeat for like two days after the album came out. I love it so much guys fnjraghlflrueahgirueah (i know all the words already) (^^ those are not the words lol)
7. 양심잆이 (Don't Care)
This song is the song that was playing in the background of all the Instagram teaser videos and because I heard it seven times before I heard the entire song, I expected a lot from it. It did not disappoint. It's another one of my favorites from this album and SURPRISE Kim Yugyeom wrote it. Yes, he wrote this baby making bop (sorry mom). It definitely feels very Gyeom-y and I love it. ALSO MARK BASICALLY SINGS IN THIS SONG AND YALL ALREADY KNOW HOW I FEEL ABOUT HIM OKAY.
8. OUT
When I first saw the tracklist for this album, I was like omg no Jackson nooo and all I kept thinking about was how Jackson is going to be like "I'M OUT!!!" basically the entire time during this song and I wasn't wrong, but I was also pleasantly surprised. OUT sounds exactly like how I expected it to but also 100x better. It's a feel good song that's fun to listen and dance to. So to Jackson: I'm sorry I judged you too soon ily. Also, they totally plagarized AGAIN with "This is How We Do It" but ya know lol.
Picking Favorites:
Y'all already know that "Q" is my favorite song on this album, but as always, here are my favorites from most to not as much:
1. Q
2. Shopping Mall
3. 양심잆이 (Don't Care)
4. Sign
5. Never Ever
6. Paradise
7. OUT
8. Go Higher
Final Thoughts:
I'm sad that the Flight Log era is ending because it was honestly one of the greatest flights of my life. As I mentioned earlier, I was highly anticipating this album and it did not disappoint. I'm very satisfied with the fact that I spent a lot of money on these albums (cause I bought both versions) and I can't wait to get them (let me know if you want me to do an unboxing post). Of course I'm biased when it comes to GOT7 but in all honesty, they never fail to impress me with how talented they are, also not to forget that they're also incredible people irl as well. I'm really glad I stan such a talented and caring group. Lastly, I want to mention that even though I love this album, it's still not my favorite album, Turbulence is still my number one and will probably be for the rest of my life. I still love Arrival a lot and will continue to listen to it until the day I die.
As always, thank you so much for reading! Let me know your thoughts about Flight Log: Arrival in the comments for tweet me @thecaitlynlee or whatevs. Please always continue to support mah boiz and buy Flight Log: Arrival!!!
