Cat Reviews: Made In The A.M. by One Direction

Hello! Long time no blog!  I took a little break from blogging, and social media in general, because I started to feel like it was consuming my life.  I needed to focus on school and get my life together... BUT I'M BACK! And of course... I thought the best way for me to come back was with a review of my babies One Direction's new album, Made In The A.M. that came out today!!!

For my last Cat Reviews post, I mentioned that I did initial reactions on Twitter, but I didn't this time. I did however, listen to these songs millions of times already and have very solid opinions on each one.  So let's get into it!

An Overview and Album Artwork:
I have the deluxe version of Made In The A.M. (which I will abbreviate as MITAM from now on cause the title is kind of long lol).  The deluxe version features 17 tracks and a backstage look at One Direction's Apple Music Festival performances as well as "Drag Me Down" live at the Apple Music Festival.  The regular version of the album does not include "Temporary Fix", "Walking In The Wind", "Wolves", and "A.M.".  The deluxe and regular covers don't differ besides that the deluxe says "deluxe version" and has an orange border. Which you can see here:

And because they're awesome, One Direction has also released individual covers for each member, only available at Target, but I'm sure over time, you'll be able to find it on Amazon or eBay, etc., but don't quote me on that.  Of course I love the individual covers because I get to take my bae Niall home with me.
Niall
Louis
Liam
Harry

I LOVE the album artwork.  They all look bae AF.  That's pretty much it though.  I don't know if you all have noticed, but Liam is always looking away in every album they've released.

The Songs:

*Far warning, I didn't listen to these songs in order, which I probably should have, so my opinions are not at all bias towards the order of the tracks.  I did listen to it in order later, so I'll try to include a little bit of my feeling about the tracklist order too.*

1. Hey Angel
- Mr. Harold Styles hella hyped up this song.  To be very honest, because that's what I'm here to be, it didn't impress me.  I know this song will be fantastic live though.  I just wasn't amazed with it.  I think it's a good song to start the album.

2. Drag Me Down
- Drag Me Down was the first single One Direction released from MITAM.  I loved it because it was their first song after the tragic Zayn loss and I thought it was perfect for their little comeback.  But I'm sick of hearing it because it's the only song my non-1D-AF friends listen to and it's a radio song. Don't get me wrong, I still love it, but it's just so overplayed, like WMYB.

3. Perfect
- I was OBSESSED with Perfect when it first came out.  I listened to it over and over, so much so that my 6 year old cousin learned the lyrics right away.  Now of course, I've got the other songs to get hyped about, but Perfect is still one of my favorites.  Obvs it's about TSwift, but that's a topic for another time.

4. Infinity
- I really loved Niall's verse in Infinity.  I love all of Niall's verses/choruses/bridges, you all know that, but I love this one in particular.  I don't know why.  The song as a whole however, doesn't make my top five.  It's a beautiful song, but like Hey Angel, I wasn't completely enamored by it.

5. End of the Day
- THIS SONG IS SO CUTE.  My initial reaction to this song was that it had a good vibe but it wasn't my favorite.  However, it has grown on me and it could potentially be top five.  Liam sounds so cute in this song and Louis sounds A1.  It's a song that just makes you happy when you listen to it.

6. If I Could Fly
- This song brought the feels (and the tears) so hard.  I literally cried in the backseat of my parents' car when I first heard this song.  My immediate reaction was "holy sh*t 1D why u gotta do me like dat?" and apologies to Ed Sheeran, but this is my new first dance song for my wedding.  Even if I marry Niall, this will be my first dance song.  Also, Niall's pre-chorus hurts my heart so much that I isolated it and listen to it over and over again because I hate myself.  OH MY GOD. AND WHEN THEY SING ONE LINE EACH.  I'M DED. Obviously If I Could Fly made top five.

7. Long Way Down
- I was not impressed with Long Way Down initially because the first time I heard it was right after If I Could Fly, but after listening it a few more times, I love it.  You're probably starting to see that I love ballad-y type songs lol.  I honestly don't know what about this song I love but I love it. However, I prefer Harry singing the chorus than Liam, and the way Liam sings "struggling" as "strug-lin" bothers me a lot lol.

8. Never Enough
- I laughed my butt off the first time I listened to the intro Never Enough - so much that I had to pause it and take a breather.  But I LOVE Never Enough.  From the title, I assumed it would be a sad ballad, but boy was I wrong.  If you haven't heard it, you need to now.  I feel like it's the Act My Age of this album, and I absolutely loved Act My Age aka I absolutely love Never Enough.

9. Olivia
- Similar to End of the Day, Olivia wasn't my favorite at first, but it has since grown on me and I absolutely adore it.  When I first heard the song, I didn't like the way the melody of the verses went.  I thought it sounded super awkward but now I actually kind of like it.  The entire song is a feel-good, happy song like End of the Day.  I especially love the "I love you I love you I love you I love Olivia" part.  Niall does it better than Liam though, soz.  The bridge reminds me of "Pure Imagination" from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which is one of my favorite songs ever.  Olivia is just really cute. My only problem is that it's called Olivia and not my name lol.

10. What a Feeling
- The chimes in the intro caught me off guard and at first I didn't know how I feel about it and to be honest, I still don't know how I feel about What a Feeling.  It definitely isn' top five, but I don't know. I feel like this song is Liam's No Control.  It's a great song, just not my fave.

11. Love You Goodbye
- Again, not a top five maker and I also don't know how I feel about Love You Goodbye.  I really don't like the first line of the chorus, "Why are you wearing that to walk out of my life?".  Maybe it's the feminist in me, but that line just doesn't strike the right chord with me.  When Niall told me to twist the knife, it hurt me so much.

12. I Want to Write You A Song
- I love this song.  I cried.  Like If I Could Fly, I loved Niall's verse so much that I isolated it but I also made this a ringtone lol.  I love it so much.  Right after I heard this song my friend told me that apparently this song is written for the future 1D babies but none of the 1D members wrote it so... But after I heard that all I can picture is Niall holding a baby.  Is that weird? Anyways... I love this song so much.  Definitely a top five.

13. History
- History is the last track on the regular version of the album.  It's also another one of my favorites.  It has such a good vibe and really good lyrics.  It's another one of those sway back and forth and just enjoy kind of songs.  It's a classic 1D kind of song.  I love it.

*The following songs are available on the deluxe version of the album*

14. Temporary Fix
- I'm so disappointed that this song is a "deluxe bonus" but I see that it is just too good.  Niall kills it in Temporary Fix.  The chorus reminded me of One Way or Another and I love that.  This song is going to be KILLER live.

15. Walking in the Wind
- My initial reaction to Walking in the Wind was "8/10 for good vibes and Niall's ahhhh oooohhh oooohhh OOOOHH" and to be honest I feel the same way.  I love it but it isn't one of my absolute favorites.

16. Wolves
- I LOVE WOLVES SO MUCH.  Wolves is definitely my number one.  It's already my ringtone and I wake up to it every morning.  I declared Wolves as my favorite track before I heard the entire album and even before the singing actually started.  It became my favorite solely based on the intro lol.  It still stands true though.  It definitely is a 10/10 and I've listened to it on repeat forever.

17. A.M.
- Let me just start by saying that I don't understand why this song is only on the deluxe version.  The album is called Made in the A.M. but the only song that mentions the title isn't on the regular version. It doesn't make sense to me but whatevs.  This was the first song that I heard off the album and it thoroughly impressed.  Louis' chorus is my favorite part because HE KILLS IT.  It has a slight country vibe to it, or is that just me?  Either way, it's an amazing song and I LOVE IT.

BONUS JONAS!

Home
- Home is only available on the Perfect EP and Japan versions of the album, I think, but it isn't part of MITAM.  To be very honest, I don't like Home that much.  Harry sounds really good in it, but he sounds really good in every song.  I don't know.  This song just didn't leave a lasting impression.

Picking Favorites:
Thank you One Direction for making picking my favorites easy for me.  On this list, I won't be including Home because it isn't part of the album.

My number one from Made in the A.M. is definitely Wolves, then the rest of my top five are as follows: If I Could Fly, I Want to Write You A Song, Olivia, Never Enough.  And the list of my most to least favorite:

1. Wolves
2. If I Could Fly
3. I Want to Write You A Song
4. Olivia
5. Never Enough
6. Temporary Fix
7. Long Way Down
8. End of the Day
9. Walking in the Wind
10. History
11. A.M.
12. Perfect
13. What A Feeling
14. Infinity
15. Drag Me Down
16. Love You Goodbye
17. Hey Angel

Final Thoughts:
Made in the A.M. most definitely gets a 10/10 from me.  This album is so strong lyrically and every single song is incredible.  Despite not having Zayn, the boys did an incredible job on this album, and (don't hate me but) it almost sounds like there was never a Zayn.  As much as I missed his voice, I'm so happy that is album is beyond incredible.  I am disappointed that they won't be touring with this album for a while, but I'm also glad they're taking a well deserved break.  There's just so many songs on this album that will be killer live... I can't wait to spend my life savings on tickets to their next tour in a year.  I, of course will 1D AF for the rest of my life.  MITAM definitely gives Take Me Home a run for its money for my favorite One Direction album.

As always, thank you so much for reading!  I hope you loved Made in the A.M. as much as I do!  If you haven't heard it yet, you can purchase it on iTunes, or stream it on Spotify and on other music streaming platforms!  Please support this album because it is amazing!

Love, Cat <3
